Visual Memory Simulator BETA is out for testing. You can download it here.

There is a ReadMe.txt provided, should cover the basics. If you got Makaron working you should have no trouble running VMS :)

Now I can switch my focus back to Makaron.

great man
im going to try pintas quest ;)
2nd-May-2009 08:29 pm (UTC)
speak to soon sorry!
what type of cables, configuration or software do i need to dump the vmu bios? does it requiere soldering or knowing that complicated stuff you wrote in your previous entry (usb schematics)?
2nd-May-2009 08:38 pm (UTC)
Well, yes, you'll need some kind of data link between DC and PC - and that's just the beginning.
Obviously I can't provide you with a copyrighted material so I'll just say this: there a file out there, 65540 bytes long, leaked from SEGA KATANA SDK. You could look for that. It's Japanese but will work fine :)
2nd-May-2009 11:43 pm (UTC)
thanks for the tip , you are the man ;)
lvl 15 already in my ship ;D
3rd-May-2009 08:52 pm (UTC)
sorry to bother again!
how do i pass the features gained in the minigames back to the vms?
do i have to use vmu explorer each time?
again sorry to bother you with these questions ;(
3rd-May-2009 11:31 pm (UTC)
Depends. If you've been using both VMS and Makaron you must be careful to not overwrite your saves. But if you only run VMS then there's no problem, just copy the 128kB .save file over to Makaron VMU folder and either rename it or modify MakaronVMU.ini to load it.
Make and keep backup copies though. Accidents happen and there is always a risk that VMS will crash or something and damage the file.
11th-May-2009 03:36 am (UTC) - VMU Bios
If I was to pull the VMU bios file directly from the SEGA KATANA SDK would that work? I have a VMU but for the life of me cant figure out how to dump the bios.
11th-May-2009 08:40 am (UTC) - Re: VMU Bios
Yes. You'll get a nag screen with that BIOS but VMS will be fully functional otherwise.

I have this problem
whit random slowdown, with diferent games using makaron,i can read this in the dialog box over and over again (mt: magazine >4000), but if i exit the emu and try again, i can play the same part without slowdowns.
any clue on this?
13th-May-2009 10:25 am (UTC)
The slowdown is most likely caused by that debug message. How much memory does your graphics card have and what game are you playing?
13th-May-2009 10:01 pm (UTC)
Os: windows xp sp3 spanish 32bits
system:athlon 64 x2 5000+
4gb ram ddr2(3.2)
gpu: radeon x1300 pci express 1.0 256mb ram
the slow down happens with these games (the only games i have )
skies of arcadia, grandia II and Vampire Chronicle
i have this settings:
is there a way to give the sound more buffer size?
MMU =0
SH4core =2
cable =0

Thank´s for this great work ! waiting MVSC2 support on MK :)

3rd-May-2009 02:04 pm (UTC) - Strange error
I wonder what is wrong here...got a totally strange error.
When I try to start the program by double clicking within Windows Explorer I get a message "Windows can not find C:\Emus\VMSSim\VMS.exe". Total Commander gives a simple "File not found".
Same from command line, if I attempt to type "vms": "The system cannot find the file C:\Emus\VMSSim\VMS.exe.". I give the command from the correct path.
Any insights as to what might be wrong here? Tried running from root of drive, same response, so it's not a path issue at all. Could I be missing any required libraries?
XP Pro SP2 (32 bit), X2 6400+, GF7600, 2GB RAM is the PC config.

Shame, I was looking forward to toying around with the VMU emulator. :|
3rd-May-2009 04:15 pm (UTC) - Re: Strange error
Whatever this is, it's not related to the emulator itself.
Either one of your apps is locking you out (AV software?) or, assuming you're using NTFS, the file access rights are broken and you're lacking the right to execute it. This can be easily tested, try running VMS from a FAT or ISO partition (floppy, USB memory stick, CD image/drive, take your pick).

cześć, możesz mi powiedzieć skąd ściągnąć pliki makarona i jak go skonfigurować? Bo mam tylko 2 pliki exe makaron i naomi

Windows 7 doesn't seem to be agreeing too well with Makaron here. I've migrated to a dualboot XP/W7 setup and what I'm getting out of Makaron is the following error:

(-1104) in module Makaron: WinMain - Makaron.Uruchom -> HOLLY.Uruchom -> HOLLY/Maple.Uruchom -> HOLLY/Maple.UruchomWtyczki -> (Makaron controller).Uruchom

Exact same config as on XP, same 360 controller and plugin you've previously provided here. Works on XP, not on W7. Any ideas?
8th-May-2009 02:22 am (UTC)
Maybe because Deunan doesn't give a crap about broken OS (Vista / W7) and only uses XP. (like everyone else with at least two cells in their brain)
10th-May-2009 04:29 am (UTC)
Thats a rather rude comment to make, and I certainly could see other OS users making the same comments about XP.
11th-May-2009 08:54 am (UTC)
Don't have W7 and don't have the time to play with incomplete RC. It's possible Microsoft broke something in XInput code, by design or accidentally. Make sure you've got the lastest DirectX runtime installed.
21st-May-2009 09:41 am (UTC)
W7 user here again, for the sake of closure.

Got it working, evidently some joystick IDs changed and I needed to delete the controller config .ini file and rebuild it. Seems to run just fine after that.
8th-May-2009 08:09 am (UTC) - MAKARON 3D ACCELERATION
when will you implement 3d acceleration and more options to tweak graphic settings?

also will you include filters like other emulators? (x2sai)?

i have been playing a few of my original DC games on your emulator and they run just fine but i cant figure out how to chnage full screen resolution , currently it is 640 x 480.

also on marvel vs capcom/street fighter/2d beat em ups the actual charetor sprites look really blocky is there some way you can implement filters or graphically acceleration on the sprites?
as the backgrounds look really nice but the sprtes are real blocky.

thanks alot
11th-May-2009 09:31 am (UTC) - Re: MAKARON 3D ACCELERATION
It is accelerated through DirectX hardware. 640x480 is the typical resolution used in DC/NAOMI games and that's what Makaron emulates.
Sprites look exactly as supposed to, please keep in mind you're playing games about 10 years old. Expecting those to look like 2009 titles will only get you disappointed. No amount of filtering will ever get it better, only a bit more blurry around the edges and that's it.
12th-May-2009 09:29 pm (UTC) - Re: MAKARON 3D ACCELERATION
Personally I feel that TV a-like scanlines improve image quality.

The Aperture2x4bg_Aaron is also a personal fave of mine (used with MAME)
13th-May-2009 07:38 pm (UTC) - are you working on making more games compatable?
im trying to run the usa version of illbleed on your latest version of makaron and it keeps giving me a critical error (-1102). its not echelon release, it is a gdi.

any idea on how to get it running?

anyways, love your emulator, keep up the good work, you've got a lot of talent being able to figure this stuff out. peace.

29th-May-2009 10:38 pm (UTC) - Dreamcast emulator in Dreamcast
hey ,nice job in all your work.

i ve think a few things, how about a dreamcast emulator runing in a dreamcast,a little kind of auto-emulation.

whit your usb mod parallel with the original serial port, the normal bios cant recognize both only the default serial....but

with autoemulation can be possible to access the things that can been imposible or unaccesible without hacking or touching the original bios.

autoemule brings more possiblities because is the same arquitecture than the emulator and can reuse the fisic complements like expand ram or read both connections (serial/usb) and make a repage for the second gdrom

how do you think.

You are great. There are few people which actually provide interesting software for free.I see that there are more people who commented on the program and came up with different ideas.DCCA Diameter
