I'm pretty busy lately so I don't have time to answer any questions in the comments, sorry. I'll just address most pressing matters in this small update.

Yeah, I'm aware that MAME has got some more NAOMI games and that Makaron doesn't recognize the ZIPs. Well duh, I need to know the filenames first and I use MAME sources for that. Unfortunately you can't just unpack those ZIPs and create continuous images - or rather, you can, but since public versions of Makaron don't contain the necessary decryption keys the protection will not be emulated. Hence no joy. Support for these titles will be added soon though.

Apparently there's yet another GUI for Makaron :) Saves me some trouble for now I guess. One of the ideas I have is to just drop the internal one completly as creating a nice GUI in pure Win32 is such a PITA. I could make an external one in Delphi or something. Hotkey-based disc swapping for Dreamcast seems to work for most people.

Work on DX11 stuff is progressing but truth be told it's a bit like switching from DirectDraw to Direct3D - nothing works anymore and needs to be rewritten plus tons of new stuff to take in. DX9 was pretty matured so documentation wasn't a problem - can't say that about DX11 I'm afraid, there are some demos/sample code but that's not enough in many cases. Fortunately Geometry Shader is simple so I can focus on Compute/Pixel Shader and OIT. Still no idea how costly it'd be to switch shader programs, I keep doing that since I have no choice but maybe a longer PS code with dynamic conditionals would actually be faster? We are talking 2009+ hardware after all.

I've also been messing around with x64 code emitter though it's just for fun now. I still need a 64-bit capable compiler first :) While it's possible to integrate that into MSVC Express version it's not exactly straightforward - and I'm not paying for STD/PRO out of my pocket just for that.

Also having some fun with soldering iron, but nothing you people would care about I suppose.

Most of all, I'd like to thank you for Dreamcast Makaron, especially for supporting WINCE games.
But, the game that I really, really want to play, Kita He - White Illumination, still have problem with Makaron. So... Deunan, do you have any plan to support this game?

I have this game from Yuki, what's wrong with it exactly? I can't test all the games myself each time I make a release.

The problem was that the mother's voice kept repeating just before the daughter's departing.
However, it was solved after I changed the folder name from Japanese to English. :(
Sorry, dknute for bothering you.
I am always supporting you!!! :)

P.S. these are minor problems in KIta He
1. During the opening movie, there was a short period of pause in video, however sound was OK.
2. Frame drops in deciding character's name.
20th-Nov-2010 04:49 pm (UTC) - Re: Thank you.
All WinCE games still have unresolved issues, mostly because the emulation speed is not high enough to handle everything at the right moment.
Makaron Test 12/5 is so far the fastest and most stable but that is nowhere near perfect yet. The folder name should not matter, it was probably just luck that it worked :) What kind of PC do you have?

I have a Macbook Pro... not PC, and runed Makaron in Bootcamp Windows XP.
If you need any help relating with Japanese, I can help you. :)

Thank you, and hope the "perfect" Makaron!!!

Hi Deunan:

I tested the emulator (vT12/5), and the emulation of the sound (AICA) is great¡¡, just have some small problems in Shenmue (Tones too high/incorrect; "Sample Rate" issue?), here I leave you a video:

nullDC r85 v/s Makaron T12/5 (Running Sega GT).

Thanks and waiting for the new DirectX10 plugin to solve the problems of the Z Buffer/transparency.

P.D: The emu is unstable on my PC in certain games with Multithreading on or off. (¿SH4 issue?)

wich is the jvs used for the dreamcast?, cause i cant run the dreamcast emu, naomi is fine

btw are yo thinking in making the update for the new naomi dumps before the new year?
22nd-Nov-2010 10:54 am (UTC)
Dreamcast doesn't use JVS, it's NAOMI-specific I/O bus. Sadly there is a bug of sorts in T12/5, you will have to get an earlier version to be able to configure your gamepad. Or you could use X360 wired pad, it doesn't need any config, just some minor changes to Maple.ini files.

I've read that you approve of this new GUI that's circling around. Quite alright, but it seems to be only distributed as part of some MakaronEX package that includes copyrighted material. Were you aware of that?

Other than that, always good to see there's still work on the scene.

Best regards.

It's not that I "approve" or anything, just acknowledge. And I wasn't aware it breaks copyright, I don't use any of these external GUIs myself.

This is just another proof that you can add a nice GUI to a good emulator but not a good emulator to a nice GUI :)
Sure, there are projects out there that are both good an functional, perhaps even written by just one man. Sadly I don't have the time to do everything I would like to and I'm also pretty lazy. I'd rather work on making the renderer work better or learn new things about DX11 and x64 code. I realize this approach of mine doesn't sit well with many people but I don'r really care.

That's good to know, since the "approval" seemed to be used as an excuse to allow and distribute it.

It's your own project, do with it as you wish. That has been working well so far. :) After all x64 and Dx11 are quite promising points, specially with OIT into consideration. A renderer capable of accurate z-buffer and sorting is very interesting indeed.

I'll see if I can find the problem. I'm busy with other things now so if it's not an obvious issue it will have to wait.

Any chance we might see the ability to assign macros? Like in MvC2, 2 punches assigned to one button?

No, unless this was a part of the original machine setup.

Hi, any chance there will be an option in the next version to utilize the trigger buttons on the 360 pad as digital buttons (for games such as CvS2) or for use with arcade sticks that map the RT/LT buttons as digital?
4th-Jan-2011 12:16 am (UTC)
Possibly. But, as always, I have tons of other stuff to take care of first.
